Hints & Tips

Poem
Written by Audrey Hepburn
when
asked to tell her beauty tips
For
attractive lips, speak words of kindness
For lovely
eyes, seek out the good in peopleFor a
slim figure, share your food with the hungry
For beautiful
hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day
For poise,
walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone
People,
even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived,
reclaimed
and redeemed
- never throw out anyone.
Remember
if you ever need a helping hand you will find one at the end
of each of your arms
As
you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands
one
for helping yourself, and the other for helping others
If
you share this with another woman, something good will happen
... you will boost another woman's self esteem and she will
know that you care about her
LOOKING
GORGEOUS BEAUTY TIPS
This month
our 'in-house' make-up artist, Vicki Angell, gives us her
top 5 make-up tips!
1.
When applying make-up, you need a good base. After cleansing
and toning, no matter what skin type you are, always apply
a good moisturiser (ideally one with a high SPF). This acts
as a barrier for your skin against bacteria and pollution.
2.
Before applying eye shadow, use face powder over the
eyelids. Then apply eye shadow, colour. This will help it
to stay in place.
3.
If you have quite small eyes, do not 'over do' on black
eyeliner. This will only make your eyes look smaller. Instead
apply a neutral shade over the whole lid and up to the brow,
then a darker eye shadow in just the crease. Only apply
a very thin line of eyeliner, just to make your eyelashes
look thicker. This way you are creating the illusion
that your eyes are bigger.
4.
When looking for a new foundation, do not try to colour
match it to the back of your hand (unless that's where you
intend to wear it of course!). Instead, try a small amount
on your jaw line, in natural light (daylight) if possible,
to get the best match!
5.
Probably one of the best pieces of advice I can give you,
is to keep brushes and sponges CLEAN. Wash them or discard
regularly and never use on anyone else. By not keeping your
'tools' clean, you are putting bacteria back onto your face.
Anti-bacteria hand wash and water is good enough. Remember
spending lots of money on face creams, make-up and beauty
treatments is all to waste if you're going to make your skin
look worse by using dirty brushes.
6.
Don't forget to look in our LG
shop for details of our mineral make up which is bacteria-free.
CHECKLIST
FOR CHOOSING A PLASTIC SURGEON
from
Mr Rajiv Grover Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Secretary
of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS)
BEFORE
THE CONSULTATION:
Check
the Qualifications of the Surgeon
- Do
they hold the exam FRCS (Plast). This is the only specialist
exam in Plastic Surgery through the Royal College of Surgeons.
- Should
be a member of BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic
Surgeons).
- The
Surgeon should be on the GMC Specialist register for Plastic
Surgery
How
did you find your Surgeon?
- Beware
of glossy advertising and Free consultations. Reputable
surgeons do not advertise and always charge a consultation
fee.
- Go
to someone on recommendation (either via a friend or your
family doctor)
- Beware
travelling abroad for surgery.
DURING
THE CONSULTATION:
Understand
the Procedure , Likely Outcome , Cost and
Risks
- Did
the surgeon give you a good understanding of the procedure
along with its likely outcome and possible risks. Does
this match your own expectation of the likely outcome. Remember,
no procedure is 100% risk free.
- Be
sure you are aware of the costs in full including if there
are complications.
Feel
Comfortable with your Surgeon
- The
surgeon must be experienced in performing that procedure,
so ask how many such operations they perform and how many
they have carried out in total (should be over 50 per year).
- VERY
IMPORTANT. You must choose someone that you feel you have
rapport and trust with. You are putting your face or body
in their hands so the feeling of trust is crucial.
AFTER
THE CONSULTATION:
Timing
of Surgery
- Take
your time to decide: Do not be rushed into making a decision
or paying a deposit.
- Avoid
surgery if you have recently experienced major life events
such as moving house, changing job, losing a loved one,
the break-up of a relationship or the arrival of children.
FINALLY
Make
your own decision: The only real expert on your appearance
and deciding on the need for surgery is YOU.
