Facts
about spas
The
term 'spa' is actually derived from the name of the town
of Spa in Belgium where since medieval times illnessses caused
by iron deficiency were treated by drinking iron bearing spring
water called chalybeate.
In
16th century England the old Roman ideas of medicinal
bathing were revived at towns like Bath. In 1571 William
Slingsby discovered a chalybeate spring in Yorkshire and built
an enclosed well at what has now become known as Harrogate
- the first resort in England for drinking medicinal waters.
From
a day spa in the UK for a quick treat, or a fortnight in a
luxury 5 star spa in an exotic location it is certainly the
ultimate way to pamper yourself and refresh your mind, body
and spirit.
